Eskil Roos (2001) is a Swedish pianist and composer based in Malmö. He has distinguished himself through his lyrical and dreamlike musical expression, which conveys both stillness and drive. In September, he is releasing his debut album, Mystery of the Mind.
Eskil attained a bachelors degree in jazz and improvisation at Malmö Academy of Music under the mentorship of Jan Lundgren, Maggi Olin, Inga-Britt Niemand and Loïc Dequidt. In his third year he went to study with the renowned pianist and composer Kristjan Randalu in Tallinn at the Estonian Academy of Music and Arts.
Immersing himself further in the world of music and composition he also attained a Master of Music at the Malmö Academy of Music. He has played in venues such as Ystad Jazz Festival, Kunstfabrik Schlot Berlin, Philly Joe's Tallinn, Malmö Jazzmanifest and Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
Growing up singing in choirs and playing the violin, the piano came into his life relatively late at the age of 16. His father finding the music of E.S.T. (Esbjörn Svensson Trio) along with Swedish pianist Lars Jansson were the first steps into the world of jazz. Starting out by figuring out the music of Lars Jansson and the music of Studio Ghibli film composer Joe Hisaishi by ear, the spark and passion for music was born.
